Let’s end the Crapification of Reddit

Please don’t be like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Snapchat, and so so many others.

Let’s get on with the list of platforms that have experienced extreme crapification makeovers. I’ll also mention some platforms I believe are walking a fine line over to crapification status as well:

Facebook

The once crowned king of social media platforms has experienced the ultimate creep into full crapification for these reasons, and way too many more to list:

  1. A complete non-chronologically algorithmically run ad-fest of a feed.
  2. If you do finally get to see a post from a family member or friend, it’s something you don’t care about, because let’s face it… you accepted way too many friend requests that you shouldn’t have over the years.
  3. They added features no one asked for, and then try to force them down your throat… the latest example being Threads (which no one uses) posts being featured on your Facebook feed.
  4. A lot of outside network crap on Facebook is fake, and or designed to anger or sadden you on purpose in order to get you to feel a certain way. Just think about the Russian bot fiasco, and the Cambridge Analytica propaganda machine incident.
  5. No premium membership purchase option available in order to turn advertisements off.

Instagram

This piece of crap used to be really good, and I loved taking and sharing pictures on it back in the day. Now sadly, it is pretty much Snapchat, TikTok, and every other crap platform combined, because instead of Meta actually coming up with something new, they just steal everything and implement it into their own existing platforms… which we never asked for.

This one is really sad for me, because like I said, it used to be really fun, and I was especially fond of Instagram’s old logo, but now it’s just crap, for these reasons, and too many more to mention:

  1. A complete non-chronologically algorithmically run ad-fest of a feed. I swear, before I signed out and deleted the application off my telephone the other day, I was literally seeing 2 adverts for every 1 post I saw from someone I followed. What’s worse, is that most of the time the non-ad was usually just a suggestion from the gods over at Meta as to what they think I would be interested in seeing.
  2. Heaven forbid I just want to take a stinking picture, it’s like pulling teeth. They want me to post a story, or a live, or whatever the heck the things are called… all I wanted to do was take a picture!
  3. Then, when I finally figured out how to just take a picture, the wording on the sign in my photograph, which was the highlight I was going for by the way… was backwards!
  4. I don’t think there is any hope for this application, and just like Facebook, there is no premium membership you can purchase in order to turn advertisements off… and this is totally by design.

TikTok

Chinese created spyware, and I personally would never use it, but if you experienced crapification creep on this platform over the years, please leave your experiences in the comment section, thank you!

Twitter / X

I already made a post on here about this platform, and the crapification is extreme to say the least. I think Twitter / X has always been crap, but Elon Musk has definitely expedited its crapification process ten fold.

  1. I have to admit, it is one of the only social media platforms remaining where you can choose to see only what you want (with the exception of ads), and in chronological order I might add… for now anyway.
  2. Even if you pay $8.00 a month for a premium subscription, it only allows you to “see less ads”… like what kind of crap is that Elon?
  3. Now, every short bus rider and their mother can be a blue checkmark, which I must say is very disturbing.
  4. Any simpleton with a premium account can now monetize their posts and comments, which is something Reddit’s r/CryptoCurrency sub-Reddit did as well, and it was a complete disaster to say the least. This encourages next-level crap-posting, and drowns out folks who have something meaningful to contribute.
  5. Premium members get to ride higher in the algorithm, taking priority over all non-paying Twitter / X users, which is a recipe for complete crapification of all interactions on the platform going forward.
  6. It is now called X.

Snapchat

My on and off again girlfriend of 10 plus years got me to get on this crap once, and I didn’t like it. If you experienced crapification creep on this platform over the years, please leave your experiences in the comment section, thank you!

Alright, I’m getting tired of writing now, so I am going to post below the platform I think is operating in the grey area, but may very well cross over the line into crapification if it isn’t careful:

Reddit

This platform has always been one of my all-time favorites, so maybe I’m a little biased here, but my bullet points will back me up here.

Positives:

  1. Reddit’s Premium subscription is only $50.00 a year, and it actually gets rid of all ads on the platform, unlike some others I know… Twitter / X!
  2. You can be completely anonymous and still thrive on the platform.
  3. Sub-Reddit’s are very hyper-focused, and the amount of information you could learn from them is endless. Plus, anonymity allows folks to be completely truthful, which could be good and bad, but in reality it is one of the only places left on the internet to get unfiltered information.
  4. If you don’t like the sub-Reddit’s (communities) that already exist for a topic that you are passionate about, you could easily create your own, and make it better than all the rest.
  5. You now have a personal profile, so you no longer have to start a sub-Reddit, or join an existing sub-Reddit to post stuff, you can just post it to your own personal profile.

Negatives:

  1. Reddit is sunsetting Community Points, and the cryptocurrencies that accompanied them, such as Moons and Bricks on November 8, 2023. (Today)
  2. Reddit is sunsetting Special Memberships on November 8, 2023. (Today)
  3. After all that crap went down with Wall Street Bets, Reddit started being the word police, and did not allow the use of certain words, which goes against its more libertarian structure.
  4. Moderators of most sub-Reddit’s don’t get laid much, so they use their powers of moderation as a way of feeling like a man, which could lead to unexplained post removals, or even being banned from a sub-Reddit entirely… hopefully just temporarily.
  5. Reddit is planning on going public soon, so they may no longer allow “not safe for work” content on their platform after their initial public offering, because corporate types and advertisers do not like nakey ladies… at least not in public spaces that is.
  6. They got rid of Reddit Awards, which were so fun to give and earn!
  7. The new gold giving system is balls, and requires you to make a microtransaction for every single gold you try to gift another Redditor.

Anyway, now for some positivity, which sadly I am in short supply of these days as it pertains to the platforms of the interwebs.

YouTube

Albeit not a true social media platform, I think what Alphabet has done with YouTube has been great.

Now, keep in mind that I am a YouTube Premium subscriber, and I have been since its inception way back in October of 2015, so I haven’t seen an ad on YouTube in almost a decade (within my own account), so maybe I am being a little biased here.

I don’t mind paying for something so long as it is worth paying for.

I only pay like $11.00 and change after taxes each month for my YouTube Premium subscription, which fun fact used to be called YouTube Red when I first signed up, and I gladly pay it every month because it is so worth the cost for me, considering that YouTube is pretty much all I watch when I have the time to watch.

It boggles my mind how many people would pay $5.00 to $10.00 a day for a cup of bougie coffee, but would sit through mind-numbingly dreadful ad after ad while sipping that very same coffee as they watch their favorite YouTube personalities latest video.

YouTubers get a certain amount of money from all YouTube Premium members that watch their content, so it makes me feel good knowing that I am contributing to my favorite creators on YouTube whenever I watch their creations.

Plus, I listen to YouTube and YouTube Music in the background on my telephone whenever I drive or workout, and YouTube Premium grants you the ability to blackout your telephone and still listen, which is probably the second best feature behind never seeing or hearing an advertisement. My battery can last and last thanks to this feature, and it is well worth the cost each month for me personally.

Anyway, that’s it for this guy.

I’m going to go enjoy my morning now, and try to be somewhat productive. I hope you guys like this crap I just wrote above, and if I missed anything, or you catch any misspellings or grammatical errors, please feel free to point them out to me in the comment section.

Thank you, and have great day!
